LAHAD DATU: Kampung Tanduo villagers are not allowed to return to their homes yet.

State Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib said although Kampung Tanduo was now free from the armed intruders, villagers would have to wait until they are given the green light to return home

He said there were about 10 houses there, and to date, the security forces would first verify whether those living there were Malaysians or foreigners and if the land they had occupied was private or whether it belonged to the government.

“If they have no right to that land, we may not allow them to return,” he said.

On another development, Hamza said the police had yet to determine the identity of the 12-year-old boy killed by Malaysian forces.

“When you talk about identification, what do you mean by identification? Do they have documents with them? They did not have any documents with them, so how can we identify them? We cannot, and we cannot simply say they are from this group or that group.

“As far as we are concerned, they are among the terrorists because they came from the target area.

“To prove a person’s identity, like being a Malaysian, you need an identity card to show that you are a Malaysian. You need a birth certificate. If you do not have any documentation, how can you say they are foreigners or they are Malaysian?” he said.

Meanwhile, Hamza said the police would be investigating the accident at Kilometre 37, Lahad Datu-Tungku Road at 7.30am on Tuesday under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

In the incident, one soldier was killed and another injured.
