Civil servants to be penalised immediately for ridiculing security forces — Ali Hamsa

LAHAD DATU: Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Dr Ali Hamsa yesterday warned of immediate disciplinary action against civil servants who ridicule the security forces engaged in the ‘Ops Daulat’ offensive against the Sulu terrorists in Sabah.

He said the government would not compromise in the matter because the intrusion was real and a number of security forces’ personnel were killed in the defence of the country.

Only a small number of civil servants had made negative comments on the intrusion of the Sulu terrorists, he told reporters after a visit to the security forces’ operations command at the Felda Sahabat 16 plantation near here.

Ali said disciplinary action would be taken against a teacher in Kelantan who had ridiculed the security forces in Lahad Datu on his Facebook page.

Director-General of Education Tan Sri Abdul Ghafar Mahmud said yesterday disciplinary action would be taken against the teacher, and added that his statement had undermined the image and reputation of educators in the country.

Since the stand-off with the Sulu terrorists began on Feb 12, 56 terrorists had been killed while the security forces lost eight policemen and two soldiers.

Ali advised civil servants to be more responsible when publishing information and comments on social websites and to ensure that the information was accurate.

“This is the time for all civil servants to exercise their strong sense of patriotism. We are being attacked by terrorists. It is time for us to fight them together,” he said. — Bernama
