KUCHING: Coach Robert Alberts has called on fans to continue supporting the President’s Cup squad as they need time to be develop into a quality team.

According to him, the current results of the squad do not reflect their future status as the players still have a long way to go.

“I am happy to see their development and it is actually a process for the newly formed squad.

“They need time and exposure to play in such a competitive tournament and the President’s Cup will provide them with the necessary experience to be a professional player,” said Alberts.

He was met by thesundaypost after the friendly match between Sarawak and Persela FC, which saw the senior squad thumped the local club 9-1.

Alberts gave the example of his own country, Holland, where focus was given to give the opportunities to the players to improve as the season progress.

He stressed that the winning mentality can only be instilled when the players are fully developed and ready to play in a competitive league.

On the April transfer window, Alberts kept mum on any changes to the line-up but noted that buying a new player is not as easy as it might sound.

“The question is: Can we afford, for example, to buy national striker Safee Sali from Johor Darul Takzim? Our current line-up have been on good form and it is better if we look at improving the current players,” he added.

The Crocs will play against Yayasan Sarawak in another friendly game next week.
