SIBU: UMW Toyota Motors Sdn Bhd, Sibu branch began its three-day ‘Sarawak Hybrid Roadshow’ at Star Mega Mall here Friday.

The roadshow runs from 10am to 10pm.

Branch manager James Wong said similar roadshows would be held at all major towns this March to showcase UMW Toyota Motor’s hybrid vehicles and other Toyota models.

“Our focus is on the ‘Ultimate Full Hybrid with two intelligent motors for greater power and efficiency’.

“Visitors may test drive and make enquiries on the latest promotions. Both the new improved PRIUS and the all-new PRIUS C hybrid vehicles symbolise Toyota’s commitment in using innovative technology to preserve our environment,” he enthused.

This month, Toyota is promoting the first Toyota hybrid vehicle including giving free insurance, free road tax, and free service during the first year of purchase or attractive down payment rebate.

The differences of the improved PRIUS and the new PRIUS C from other hybrids on the market are underneath the hood for customers to experience, Wong said.

“Toyota’s mission has always been to provide clean and safe products,” he said.

With this in mind, a new powertrain called the Toyota Hybrid System (THS) was developed with the aim of creating a practical ‘Eco Car’, he added.

The Toyota Hybrid System combined a petrol engine and an electric motor that does not require external charging.

Globally, the PRIUS has made its presence felt in more than 70 countries and has reached worldwide sales of over four million units. PRIUS was introduced in Japan in 1997 as the world’s first mass-produced, petrol-electric hybrid vehicle.
