GADONG: A woman escaped unhurt when the engine of the car she was driving caught fire on her way to Jalan Tungku Gadong last evening, Borneo Bulletin reported.

According to the woman who was driving the saloon car alone, she did not realise anything amiss while on the wheels and only realised when a person from a car next to her signalled her to pull over.

“I did not realise what had happened but immediately pulled over to the side of the road. It was only then that I realised that something was wrong as my turn signals did not function,” she said.

She added that the good samaritan pulled over next to her car then asked her to get out of the car immediately, because he saw black fumes coming out of the car engine.

Firefighters rushed to the scene and managed to contain the fire within minutes.

Police personnel were also dispatched at the scene to control traffic and file a report which is still under investigation.

The extent of damage to the car was visible at its front hood, grill and bumper which were badly damaged by the fire. There were no other damages and losses reported during the unfortunate incident.

“My husband and I have been driving the car for quite a longtime and we haven’t encountered such problems before,” the woman said.
