Lawan asked to stop making ‘confusing statements’

SRI AMAN: Sri Aman Member of Parliament Masir Kujat, who has been renominated by Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) to defend the seat, has called on former Bukit Begunan assemblyman Donald Lawan to stop making “confusing statements”.

He said Lawan should instead give his undivided support to the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate in the constituency.

Masir stressed that PRS has nominated him to contest in Sri Aman and not Lawan.

“If indeed he (Lawan) says he is a BN man, he should support BN and not make confusing statements by saying that he would like to contest (in Sri Aman),” Masir said on Monday prior to a PRS Women’s wing event.

Lawan was reported on Monday as saying that he is a BN man keen to contest in the seat.

Among others, Lawan said he would apply to join PRS if he won, adding that he would never attempt to join the opposition.

Masir pointed out that PRS president Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing has said that he (Masir) would be renominated by the party to contest in the seat, and was only awaiting the endorsement of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

“There cannot be two candidates (representing PRS) in Sri Aman, so if he is not picked, but insists that he is a BN man, then go all out to support BN,” Masir said.

However, he added that there was nothing to stop Lawan from contesting as an independent.

“If he wants to contest as an independent, so as with SWP (Sarawak Workers Party), DAP (Democratic Action Party) and PKR (Parti Keadilan Rakyat), nobody can stop them since this is a democratic country … the more the merrier.”
