TAWAU: Several business enterprises, society groups and individuals yesterday contributed food and daily necessities to the security forces who are in active duty in Lahad Datu and Semporna following the intrusion by an armed group from Sulu.

Among the generous contributors were Teck Guan Trading Sdn Bhd, which has contributed nearly RM10,000 in food and beverages, San Bumi company (1,000 boxes of drinking water and 500 cartons of soft drinks), Automaju company (50 cartons of soft drink) and the Young Malaysians Movement of Tawau (150 boxes of drinking water).

Four individuals namely, Khoo, Liew, Tan and Seow also made personal contributions of 400 packets of biscuits. These generous individuals are members of the Tawau Chinese Chamber of Commerce (TCCC).

Teck Guan Trading Sdn Bhd managing director Madam Hong Kim Fah said their contribution is to meet the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and hoped the food and beverage would be of some help to the security forces at the front line defending our country’s sovereignty.

Alex Chin, the president of Tawau Young Malaysians Movement, is urging more Chinese youths to come forward to support the efforts of the security forces in the defence of our country. He also encouraged the youths to be imbued with a spirit of willingness to participate any activities organized by the government.

Presentation of the contributions was held at the 516th Territorial Army Regiment Camp yesterday.

Representative of the 516th Territorial Army, Alexander Lai, said as the second line of defence after the regular security forces, the Territorial Army is ready and resolute to help defend the country when needed and are prepared to take the responsibility and the risk involved in defending the country’s sovereignty.

“We feel proud to be the 60th batch of the Territorial Army and have learnt a lot about preserving the peace in our area and the nation,” he added.

Also present were the commanding officer of the 516th regiment of the Territorial Army for east coast of Sabah, Tan Sri Liew Yun Fah, his deputy commander, Lieutenant Colonel Osman, and members of the Territorial Army.

Liew thanked the Chinese community for their kind support and generous contributions to the security forces. He said besides the community, the Territorial Army is also the ‘eyes and ears’ of the security forces.

He therefore strongly urged the younger generation to join any security movements such as RELA, Civil Defence (JPAM) and other uniformed bodies. In doing so, they would have an opportunity to learn more about defending the country and making themselves ready for disaster at any time.

Earlier, Armed Forces chief Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin visited the Joint Task Force II camp at Kukusan here yesterday afternoon before departing for Lahad Datu.
