SIBU: SMK Sacred Heart and SMK St Elizabeth reigned supreme in the Boys’ and Girls’ section respectively at the 46th edition of the Sibu Division Track & Field Championship which ended at Stadium Tun Zaidi yesterday.

It was sweet victory for both schools after playing second fiddle to SMK Kanowit in the past few years.

SMK Kanowit was second in the Boys’ section but was beaten by SMK Sedaya to the third placing in the Girls’ section.

The third placing in the Boys’ section went to SMK Sedaya.

The battle for supremacy was literally between SMK Sacred Heart, SMK Kanowit and SMK Sedaya in the Boys’ section and SMK St Elizabeth, SMK Kanowit and SMK Sedaya in the Girls’ section.

Meanwhile, two more records were broken, bringing a total of eight new records set during the four-day championship.

Kho Yuan Choon from SMK Sacred Heart set a new record in Boys’ Under 18 hammer throw with a new distance of 40.41m to eclipse the old mark of 39.49m set by Marcellinus Ajak in 2005.

Zone Kanowit clocked a time of 2.02.86” in the Boys’ Under 12 4x 200m relay to beat the old time of 2.04.18”.

Earlier, national athlete Norris Foo contributed three records in Girls’ Under 15 100m hurdles (15.48”), 200m hurdles (29.72.”) and 100m dash (12.52”), Betty Hoong got one in Girls’ Under 15 shot putt (10.26m), Lenny Tukau in Girls’ Under 12 long jump (4.20m) and Ronifred Egoh Mathew Dana in Boys’ Under 15 triple jump (13.32m).

For individual category, Kho was adjudged the best performer in the Boys’ Under 18 category with a record and one silver in javelin.

Ronifred was the best performer in the Boys’ Under 15 with a record and two gold in 110m hurdles and long jump.

Alexson Jeep and Gibson Johnny, both from SMK Sedaya, shared the honors in Boys’ Under 14 with each grabbing two gold medals.

In Boys’ Under 12, the best performer was Joshua Adit with two gold medals in 100m and long jump events.

In the Girls’ section, Pretty James and Olivy Nayan shared the honors in Girls’ Under 18 with each having three gold medals.

Foo was the best performer in Girls’ Under 15 with three records.

The best Girls’ Under 14 were shared by Camelia Martin, Maria Ngandang and Alina Naga with both securing two gold.

In the Girls’ Under 12, Lenny Turau was adjudged the best performer with one record and one gold.
