BINTULU: More than 100 cyclists endured the sun to cycle 16km around Bintulu yesterday morning.

The cyclists were taking part in the ‘Jom Berbasikal Bersama PDRM’ programme organised by Bintulu police in conjunction with the 206th Police Day celebration this coming Monday. The cycling event was led by senior police officers and personnel including Bintulu police chief Superintendent Madang Usat and his deputy DSP Mohd Said Ibrahim, special branch chief ASP Ghaisah Putang and Bintulu police head of management ASP Jame Reis. This was the first of its kind event jointly participated by police personnel and local cycling teams as well as members of big bikers in celebrating the memorable day for the police force.

“In our history here, this is the first time our police cycling team pedalled together with the local cycling clubs and the community,” Madang said before the flag-off ceremony.

Other sports activities such as a shooting competition for police personnel, futsal and badminton competitions have also been lined up in line with the occasion.

Madang also said sports activities like cycling should become part of everyone’s daily routine as they were good for health.

The cyclists also made a stop at Bintulu Esplanade and handed out crime prevention pamphlets to passing motorists to create greater awareness among the public on their roles and responsibilities.
