KOTA KINABALU: A former strong supporter of Democratic Action Party (DAP), Oh Choo Hong, dropped dead suddenly at a coffee shop at Kepayan Ridge here yesterday.
Customers at the coffee shop reported that Oh was upset and the latter had swept all the food and beverages on a table to the floor.
Immediately after that he dropped to the floor and was seen having breathing difficulty and passed away at the shop.
City police chief ACP Jauteh Dikun confirmed the case, saying that it would be investigated as sudden death.
The 73-year-old Oh, who lived at Taman Tuan Huat nearby, left behind his wife, 36 year-old son and 37-year-old daughter.
Oh contested for the Kota Kinabalu parliamentary seat on a DAP ticket in the 1980s. Although he lost, he remained a strong supporter of DAP and often produced press releases for the party.
In recent years, he had ceased to partake in political activities, which was believed due to his health condition.
Oh was seen mumbling to himself when he was walking to the shop at Kepayan Ridge as usual around 1.45pm yesterday.
As he walked into the coffee shop at the corner, he suddenly swept the food and beverages on a customer’s table to the floor, before dropping to the floor.
Members of the public immediately called for an ambulance, but Oh was confirmed dead upon inspection by the medical personnel.
His body was later sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for a post-mortem.
Oh’s children and brothers also rushed to the scene upon hearing the news.
