KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) yesterday urged the government to immediately set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry on the incursion by an armed group from Sulu into Tungku, Lahad Datu as this concerns the safety and future of Sabah people and not after the general election.

Datuk Seri Panglima Yong Teck Lee, president of SAPP, pointed out that the armed incursion and the “Project IC” are the 2 most pressing issues for Sabah people, therefore the government must act immediately and decisively to investigate and to uncover the perpetrators and bring them to justice. However, the process must be transparent and fair so that the public will know the truth.

Yong said that when Prime Minister, Datuk Najib sets up the Royal Commission of Inquiry on the intrusion into Sabah by an armed group from Sulu, he must consult the leaders of Sabah on the selection of panel members, the investigation process, the scope and power of the inquiry, so that the inquiry will be comprehensive, fair and accurate.

Yong said that this incident has affected the Sabah people and local opposition parties may understand and provide better solutions to all the problems.

He said the people of Sabah are now scared and traumatized by the ongoing gun battles in Lahad Datu and Semporna.

In order to safeguard our local interests and future, a local party like SAPP could fight for us and look after our interests, he said.
