LIMBANG: The forthcoming Limbang-NAIM League 2013, scheduled to start on April 1, will see stiff competition among the 21 teams to vie for the Dr. Abdul Rahman Ismail challenge trophy.

Limbang Football Association (LFA) chairman and Limbang-NAIM League 2013 advisor Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said the addition of five new teams joining the league and the transformation of the older teams augurs well for the development of soccer in the division.

“We are optimistic that the standard of the game will be enhanced with the good mixture of old and new players, and more teams competing. This augurs well for the development of soccer here and serves as an early preparation for the Sarawak Cup 2014,” he said yesterday.

Dr Rahman, who is also the State Assemblyman for Bukit Kota, added that the increasing number of teams showed that the Limbang League introduced five years ago is becoming a popular avenue to scout talents.

He hoped that the players will continue to uphold the high sporting spirit and professionalism throughout the league season.

The league will kick off with a match between the champion of FA Cup (Sesco FC) and Super League (Tiger FC) to vie for the Piala Sumbangsih (Charity Cup).

Teams competition in the current Super League include well known teams such as Tiger FC, ABC Club, Central FC, Sesco FC, Delima FC, ACJ, Gabungan Awat-Awat Bersatu, LBA, IPD Limbang and Highlander’s/Budak Pasir.

Meanwhile, the Premier League consist mostly of new teams such as Lubuk Piasau, PML, KBL, Marvellous FC, Ransing, ABC All Star,  Utahol FC, Bidang FC, BB FC, Felda United and  Highlander’s/Budak Pasir.
