The course which began on Mar 25 was conducted by the Sarawak State Sports Council (SSSC).

Assistant Director of SSSC for Southern Zone Linda Ling, who officiated at the closing ceremony, described sports science as a positive trend towards sport safety and health.

She said in every sport there was a risk of injury as a person could be pushed to the limit. However, this could be addressed with know-how from sports science such as knowledge on healthy and balanced nutrition.

Sport also involved psychology and mental aspects which were part of the course syllabus.

She also cited an illustration of Malaysia badminton champion Datuk Lee Chong Wei whose performances were well supported by sport scientists who did not only cater for his performance but also made analytical studies of his opponent’s strength and weaknesses and fed them back to Lee.

She also urged the participants to continue to attend such courses from time to time.

SSSC’s Assistant Director Ahmad Sulaihi Yakub and Assistant Director of Central Zone Arrolflynn Elvis Slie were among those present.
