‘Pad Yatra: A Green Odyssey’ to create awareness on environment

KUCHING: Malaysian-born international star Datuk Seri Michelle Yeoh is in the process of promoting a documentary film titled ‘Pad Yatra: A Green Odyssey’.

The film was screened at a private function at Cove 55 Santubong on Friday night to an audience consisting of Minister of Tourism Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg, artistes and delegates attending the Asean International Film Festival and Awards (Aiffa) 2013.

Yeoh, who is the executive producer, said the making of the film took a long time due to unpredictable weather and also distance in the rural area.

“Film director Wendy Lee and a photographer had joined an expedition to create awareness on the importance of environmental conservation to the people staying in the Himalayas,” she said.

The documentary covered places stretching 450 km and was participated by about 700 people across the Himalayas.

The expedition, which was led by Buddhist monk Drukpa Gyalwang, went to villages to educate the locals about environmental conservation and planted trees along the way.

The private screening was also attended by Assistant Minister of Tourism Datuk Talib Zulpilip and the ministry’s Permanent Secretary Datu Ik Pahon Joyik.
