KUCHING: All eyes will soon be on Junior Eldstal as the new ‘foreign’ player began his trial with Sarawak yesterday.

According to Sarawak chief coach Robert Alberts, the player arrived in Kuching last Friday and was at the grand stand of Stadium Negeri to watch the Premier League match between Sarawak and Kedah last Friday.

“He is one of the options that I am looking into. I knew him from one of my contacts in England,” he said.

Playing at the Vauxhall League in England, the player’s background is still shrouded in some mystery and his natural position has yet to be revealed by the Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) during press time.

Alberts will only know once the 22 year-old player resumes his trial today.

There has been some talk that he is a striker.

Based on a reliable source, Eldstal has expressed enthusiasm in coming to Sarawak.

He had remarked on his first day at the Stadium Negeri, most probably from watching last Friday’s match, that fans in Sarawak were great and he was full of praise for them being “in a different gear despite watching a scrappy match.”

thesundaypost have reasons to believe that Sarawak might sign the player. After all, he is believed to hold a Malaysian passport.

“If he fits well into our system, then he will be a gem for the team as he is not considered as a foreign player. But we need to try him first,” said Alberts.

If indeed Eldstal signs on as a Croc, fans may only need to wait until next Saturday to see him in action for Sarawak’s match against Kelantan away at Kota Baharu in the FA Cup.
