Four aspects to ensure success of ESSCOM – director

KOTA KINABALU: Four aspects would be made the main agenda in ensuring the success of Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM), said its newly appointed director, Datuk Mohammad Mentek.

These included the setting up of CIQ complexes in Kudat and Lahad Datu as well as as control post in Kerakit on Pulau Banggi soon.

Mohammad, who is also the State Immigration director, added cooperation between the police, armed forces and public would play a very important role in the success of ESSCOM.

“We cannot compromise the issue of security and it is my hope that everyone in Sabah will give their full support to ESSCOM,” he said.

Mohammad Mentek whose appointment will take effect on April 1, said the displaced villagers from the conflict zones would be resettled but at the moment, the proposed location was still being studied.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman welcomed Mohammad’s appointment as ESSCOM director.

Musa expressed his approval after a press conference with Home Affairs Minister Datuk Hishammuddin Hussein at the VIP lounge at Kota Kinabalu International Airport.

“I believe Datuk Mohammad Mantek is a suitable candidate because he is experienced and dedicated; therefore I am confident that he will perform his tasks well,” Musa stated.

He also mentioned that it was imperative for all parties involved to give their cooperation to Mohammad so that he can perform the duties as expected and be able to achieve the goals of ESSCOM.

Mohammad’s appointment was announced by Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Dr Ali Hamsa on Friday.
