Norazura Mail was travelling in a Proton Wira driven by her friend, Dasiree David, 21, when she lost control of the wheel about 3.55am. The car overturned and threw both of them out.

While Dasiree sustained injuries to her body, Norazura was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe head injuries.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

In another accident, a three-month-old baby and his mother sustained serious head injuries after the Isuzu D-Max which they were travelling in plunged into a drain next to a roundabout near the Polytechnic Kota Kinabalu here early Sunday.

In the 1.40am accident, a family of five, comprising two women, two men and the baby, was said to be heading to Kota Belud after attending a ceremony in Kuala Penyu when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle then skidded and ran over the roundabout before plunging into the drain.

The impact of the crash threw both the infant boy and his mother, who were sitting in the front seat, out of the vehicle, causing them to sustain severe head  injuries. The other three family members also suffered slight to moderate injuries.

A rescue team from the Civil Defense Department came to the scene after receiving a distress call about 2am, and rushed the injured to the hospital for treatment.
