KOTA KINABALU: The Traffic Court here yesterday fined two local men RM450 each, in default, three days jail for allowing underage boys to drive their vehicles.

Magistrate Edward Paul imposed the fine on Samsuddin Ahmadi, 54, and Nasruddin Muin, 63, after they pleaded guilty to each of charges under Section 39 (3) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which is punishable under Section 39 (5) of the same Act with a maximum fine of RM2,000 or a jail term of up to six months, or both, upon conviction.

Samsuddin admitted to allowing his nephew to drive a mini bus along Jalan Sepanggar on January 7 while Nasruddin admitted to letting his son drive his pick-up along Jalan Lok Kawi on November 20, 2012. Both boys then were aged 16 years old.

In the same court, the two teenagers were charged with driving the vehicles illegally.

Edward transferred their cases to the Juvenile Court here and set April 4 this year for mention.

No plea was recorded from both the boys who were caught committing the offences at the same time and place.

The two boys were released on RM200 each with one local surety each, pending disposal of their cases.
