All parties must ensure election process runs peacefully — Nazrin

KUALA KANGSAR: The Regent of Perak, Raja Dr Nazrin Shah yesterday called on all parties to ensure the election process runs smoothly and peacefully to honour the constitution and to uphold the rule of law.

“Political parties, especially political leaders should show responsibility by constantly emphasising aspects of security, public order and national unity,” he said when handing over documents for the 12th Perak state assembly dissolution, here, yesterday.

He said in efforts to gain the support of voters, sensitive issues that may hurt the feelings of others and has the potential to raise hatred among the people, cause religious tension that may divide the harmony or jeopardize the unity of the country should be avoided at all times.

Raja Dr Nazrin added that the law enforcement authorities need to take firm and prompt action against any act by any party that tries to disrupt public order.

“Public Order must be preserved at all times. Integrity of the law enforcement should be preserved by demonstrating enforcement of the law in a fair and non-partisan manner,” he said.

Earlier, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir accompanied by Perak State Assembly Speaker Datuk R Ganesan, met Raja Dr Nazrin at about 3pm to seek the dissolution of the Perak state assembly. — Bernama
