KUCHING: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) may contest in 15 or 16 parliamentary seats in the state for the general election.

This was disclosed by the party’s state chairman Baru Bian at a press conference here yesterday.

He added that at the moment 12 seats in the state which PKR would contest in had no overlapping claim by DAP or PAS while the opposition front had not finalised its decision on two or three seats.

“It is public knowledge that Miri and Stampin seats are still under contention. DAP and PKR are still working and looking at the two areas and now we leave it to the presidential council of PR to look into it. I believe that should be finalised by April 11.”

With limited resources, Baru said the only way to counter rural money politics would be be explain the party’s manifesto and policy and offer the people hope and long-term benefits.

Meanwhile, Baru said Anwar would announce the party’s candidates for the state parliamentary seats during his visit here next Tuesday. He added that Anwar would also be visiting either Lubok Antu or Selangau during his visit.

“We purposely chose these two areas because these are the areas where the rumours are strong,” Baru said.

On the party’s level of preparation, he said preparations had been ongoing for the past one year and is currently on ‘its toes and doing their best until polling day’. Baru thanked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak for his assurance that the transition of power, if any, would be peaceful.
