Elli eyeing Hulu Rajang

KUCHING: Farmer Dr Elli Luhat is ‘99 per cent’ certain of contesting in Hulu Rajang in the 13th general election.

“However, having said that, I do not rule out the possibility of contesting somewhere else, including Baram, or I may not contest at all.”

However, he said it was most likely that he would stand in Hulu Rajang as he could tap on the advantage of being an Orang Ulu born in Sungai Asap, Belaga.

Elli added that if he were to contest it would most likely be under a STAR ticket since the party was fighting for the ‘Borneo Agenda’.

“My election manifesto is basically to promote and to push the Borneo Agenda, and whoever shares this common struggle I am willing to join them.

“Right now I see only STAR is moving towards that direction, and because of this I don’t rule out that I might be using the party’s banner to contest although I am not a registered member of the party yet.”

Elli said he believed there were many “silent young Sarawakians” who supports the Borneo Agenda.

“I am sure there are many silent supporters who want to see that rights of the states in Borneo being upheld. I believe this to be so even within the BN parties, just that no one dares to speak out.

“We have to make sure that the 20 points signed by the leaders before forming Malaysia are fully adhered to as, unfortunately, some parts of the agreement have been disregarded.”

He admitted that it would be an uphill task for him but the struggle to defend the rights of Sarawak and Sabah had to start somewhere.

“I know that in Sabah the various political parties, including SAPP and Upko have joined UBA (United Borneo Alliance) and we should also do the same here.”
