KUCHING: A young man was fined RM50 in default two weeks’ imprisonment for failing to produce his MyKad when requested to do so by policemen last month.
Saji Jemali from Kampung Jaya Bakti, Jalan Matang, was convicted under Rules 7 of the National Registration Act 1959 (Act 78).
The offence is punishable under Rules 25(1) (n) of the same Act.
At about noon on March 28, 2013, at Lorong Demak, Sepakat Jaya, in Demak Laut, Saji failed to produce his MyKad when requested by policemen patrolling the area.
Before passing sentence, Magistrate Maris Agan had considered public interest, nature of the offence, mitigation of the accused – that he has no previous conviction’s record, and that he pleaded guilty to the charge in view of the fact that he had been remanded for seven days until yesterday.
