ALL SET: Sng getting 12 sets of nomination papers from the state Election Commission office in Kuching yesterday.

KUCHING: Sarawak Workers Party (SWP) is prepared for multi-cornered fights in all the six seats they are eyeing in the 13th general election.

Its president Larry Sng said their election machinery had been primed for such an eventuality.

“We are well prepared for any kind of situation, and I am confident we can win Lubok Antu, Julau, Hulu Rajang, Kanowit, Selangau and Sri Aman,” he told reporters when met after collecting nomination papers from the State Election Commission at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar here yesterday.

On the party’s candidates’ list, Sng said the party might announce all the names next week.

So far the party has confirmed three candidates, namely Pelagus assemblyman George Lagong for Hulu Rajang, Meluan assemblyman Wong Judat in Julau and Sng himself in Lubok Antu.

On the campaign period, Sng said 11 days would be fine since the party had long prepared for this polls.

“Campaigning period is not a problem to us. Whether it is 11 days, 20 days or less does not really matter.

“Whether polling will be held this month or next month makes no difference to us. We have been moving on the ground and are now more than prepared for the election.”

On another issue, Sng denied claims that SWP had tried to buy over two potential PKR candidates in two of the seats they were eyeing.

“I am not sure who among us the claims referred to but what I can say is that SWP will not resort to such a practice. Moreover, we already have our own qualified candidates for all six seats.”
