PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak yesterday announced that the ‘1Malaysia Privilege Card’ made available to police and military personnel has been extended to the 700,000 government retirees in the country.

Holders of the card get to enjoy special discounts on goods and services at selected outlets.

Najib said it was being extended to government retirees in appreciation of their contributions.

“The discount card can be used by government pensioners whether at Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia, Klinik 1Malaysia or Kedai Kain 1Malaysia,” he said when addressing a get-together of government retirees at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), here.

Also present were Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Dr Ali Hamsa, Public Service Department director-general Datuk Mohamad Zabidi Zainal and Putrajaya Corporation president Tan Sri Aseh Che Mat, who is also the president of the Senior Retired Civil Servants Umno Club.

More than 3,000 government pensioners attended the event.

Najib had launched the ‘1Malaysia Privilege Card’ last August specifically for the 241,000 officers and men in the two security forces to lighten their burden.

The initiative under the National Blue Ocean Strategy 6 (NBOS 6) enables holders of the card to enjoy between five and 25 per cent discount on goods and services offered by participating companies.

Meanwhile, Ali, when approached by reporters, said government retirees could make use of the facility in two weeks time.

He said the extension of the card to government retiress did not entail any cost or new policy.

“This can be implemented immediately because the other groups (police and military) are enjoying it. So we just add on the retirees (into the list). “Now, they (retired civil servants) only get discounts for public transport.

“In retail business, they will enjoy discounts. There is a long list of companies. They (retirees) can use their retiree cards and enjoy discounts at retail outlets,” he said. — Bernama
