Drug trafficking trial continues

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The on-going trial of a trio facing the death penalty for importation of drugs, trafficking and abetment of the offence continued yesterday in the High Court before Chief Justice Dato Paduka Kifrawi and Justice Dato Paduka Hairol Arni, Borneo Bulletin reported.

The Narcotics Control Bureau Exhibits officer was further quizzed by the defence counsels in their cross-examination of the prosecution witness.

Part of the cross-examination saw that the bags containing the cannabis worth $126,678.60 were not locked as they were seized by the Narcotics Control Bureau at the airport that day.

Mohammad Ameer, Noor Sa’adah and Abdul Razak face a charge of importation of about 1,266.786 grammes of cannabis into the country from Bangkok, Thailand, on August 7, 2010.

The defendants were arrested on the date at the Brunei International Airport, Berakas, by Narcotics Control Bureau officers.

An alternative charge was also preferred against Abdul Razak which is one of abetment of Mohammad Ameer’s and Noor Sa’adah’s alleged importation of the drug.

DPPs Aldila Hj Mohd Salleh and Pg Hana Pg Hj Mohammad appeared for the Public Prosecutor.

Lawyers Yusuf Halim represented Mohammad Ameer bin Salleh and Roy Prabhakaran stood for Noor Sa’adah binti Emran while Rozaiman Abdul Ragman represented Abdul Razak bin Matali.
