ROMPIN: Two Singaporeans were killed and one is still missing after their boat was involved in an accident with a fishing trawler near Layang Island, here, Sunday.

Rompin district police chief Deputy Superintendent Johari Jahaya said they were on the boat with five other anglers.

“In the incident at 4.30pm, 30 nautical miles from Tanjung Gemok jetty, the victims Raymond Cheng Yuen Chi, 35, and Ng Eng Hua, 37, died on the spot after they sustained serious injuries on the head due to the strong impact of the accident.

“It is believed the boat skipper did not notice the trawler which was heading toward Tanjung Gemok jetty from Tioman Island while the victims’ boat had just left Kampung Sungai Puteri jetty heading toward Tanjong Gemok waters for fishing activities,” he told reporters, yesterday.

Johari said the other victim who was still missing had yet to be identified and failed to be found by the search and rescue team comprising the Marine Police, The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), Fire and Rescue Department and fishermen from the surrounding areas. — Bernama
