Acting Minister of Home Affairs visits Wasai Bedanu

KIUDANG: Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Hj Awg Halbi bin Hj Mohd Yussof, Acting Minister of Home Affairs, made a working visit to take a closer look at the refurbishing work being carried out to the facilities at Wasai Bedanu Recreational Park in Kampung Kiudang, Borneo Bulletin reported.

The Wasai Bedanu Recreational Park lies five kilometres inside the pristine jungle of Kg Kiudang.

The working visit was aimed at surveying the recreational facilities in the area. The government has allocated $75,958 under the allocation for sports and recreational facilities to the Tutong District Office.

The visitwas also aimed atstrengthening ties between village residents and the Ministry of Home Affairs.

During the visit, Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Hj Awg Halbi also took part in planting a Bangangan herbal tea sapling, whereby the leaves of the tree will be part of the ‘One Village, One Product’ programme for the Kg Kiudang Consultative Council, which is named Tea Herbs 3MPK.

Pehin Dato Paduka Seri Hj Awg Halbi also had the opportunity to survey closely the refurbishing work being carried out to the facilities at Wasai Bedanu, including the cementing of the small staircase at Wasai Bedanu, replacing the wooden bridge and repairing the resting hut.

The consultative council was encouraged to have discussions for any future project or suggestions at the Wasai Bedanu in older to realise them.

The project at Wasai Bedanu is seen as a potential activity to generate economic returns for the village especially in the field of tourism or a place for sporting events.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, so far the place has received an encouraging number of visitors, from local residents to student communities from local and foreign tertiary academic institutions.

The Wasai was first explored by village residents in the 1980s. Basic recreational facilities were added to the Wasai in 2008. In 2010, a transformation plan was made for Wasai Bedanu, where among the current and future projects at Wasai Bedanu include the creation of an administrative office and surau, multipurpose field, public toilet, resting huts, observation tower, flying fox facility and models of traditional village houses.
