KOTA KINABALU: Sabah State Reform Party (Star) chairman Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan yesterday confirmed that he will contest the Keningau parliamentary and Bingkor state seats in the 13th general election.

“Yes, it’s confirmed I would contest in Keningau and Bingkor in the coming polls,” he told Bernama.

In the 2008 election, he narrowly lost to his brother and Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan and Datuk Justin Guka of Barisan Nasional (BN) in Keningau parliamentary and Bingkor state seats, respectively.

Asked whether Star would field a candidate for the Tambunan state seat to take on Pairin who had declared his intention to defend the seat, Jeffrey said Star was still considering such a move.

The general election will take place on May 5, with nomination set for April 20, the Election Commission announced in Putrajaya yesterday.

Meanwhile, Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) president Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee said the 15-day campaign period was sufficient for his party. — Bernama
