KUCHING: Koperasi Koppes Sarawak Bhd’s first housing project is expected to be ready by October 2014.

Koppes chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain said the project comprising 54 houses at Jalan Bako would be the start of more to come.

“We will develop a few more housing projects in the coming years. However, I’m not going to reveal the details of the projects now,” he told reporters after the earth breaking ceremony yesterday.

“The reason for us to venture into the property market is to diversify our sources of income so that we could continue paying our members the maximum 10 per cent dividend. Since we have land, we therefore think that venturing into the property market is a good option.”

Abdul Aziz said Koppes would get a profit of at least RM2 million from the housing project.

“We actually received an overwhelming response from house buyers on our first housing project. For instance the low cost plus units are fully booked,” he said, adding that Koppes members could get special discounts on the units.

He explained that Koppes decided to be directly involved in the housing project as it would enable the cooperative to develop its expertise in the industry.

Such expertise and experience would help Koppes with future projects, he said.

The Jalan Bako project on a site of 6.2 acres involves 16 low cost single-storey terraced units priced from RM220,000, 30 double-storey terraced units priced from RM512,000 and eight double-storey semi-detached units priced from RM686,000.

It is located at Lot 412, Blok 19, Salak Land Distict.
