Young musicians busking at Damai Central

KUCHING: Visitors to Damai this weekend will be in for a musical treat as young local musicians hold a busking activity at Damai Central, a seaside leisure attraction.

About five young talents from Kuching will entertain the crowd with a mix of modern and traditional music such as sape music, contemporary pop and rock music, and even Australian aboriginal didgeridoo tribal music from 3pm to 6pm on Saturday.

The activity aims to raise funds for a local charity body.

This music, dance and art activity – a collaboration between the Azam Young Souls and Damai Central – is the first of year round happenings in line with Damai Central’s tagline ‘Making it Happen’.

The project provides creative and entertaining activities to boost tourism in the area, as well as provide a platform for local youths to showcase their talent and creativity, and interact with local communities.

It is among the latest projects under Azam ‘s Young Souls and the City, youth development programme introduced last year.

Azam ‘s youth engagement programme complements the state’s youth development efforts.

It is essentially a two-prong programme: to nurture urban youths into caring and responsible citizens in the development of their communities, city and state; and reach out to rural youths through motivation and sharing of knowledge and skiils in relevant areas of interest among the younger generations.

Such sharing and interaction is also to help bridge the knowledge and aspiration gaps between urban and rural youths for more cohesive movement in youth development in the state.
