KOTA KINABALU: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) has produced a total of 23 intellectual properties in a form of patents, trademarks and copyrights, said Vice Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Mohd Harun Abdullah.

Speaking at the UMS Researcher Awards at the Promenade Hotel here on Friday, he said with the positive collaboration of MyIPO, UMS must work harder to ensure that the potential products that are suitable for commercializing get more recognition at the international level.

“In UMS, we have been successful in licensing seaweed research into an intellectual property. I congratulate our researchers for their efforts to accept the challenge of developing the seaweed industry.

“In our effort to maximize the commercial potential of UMS innovation, a strategic collaboration with the Malaysian Innovation Agency (AIM) in 2012 has been signed to allow AIM helping UMS in term of industry matching, legal advice and commercialization,” he said.

During the event, five researchers received their awards under three categories, namely, Anugerah Tokoh Penyelidik Malim with one recipient, Anugerah Tokoh Penyelidik (two recipients) and Anugerah Tokoh Penyelidik Muda (two recipients).
