LABUAN: The Lions Club of Labuan Mandarin through the support of local businessmen and organizations collected donations totaling RM867,660 for their RM6 million ‘Lions House of Love’ project located at Layang-Layangan near here.

Its secretary, Jessica Lee, yesterday disclosed that the donation was collected during the Lions House of Love Charity Dinner event held yesterday evening at the convention hall of the Financial Park.

Jessica said some individuals donated more than RM20,000 which entitled them to be on stage for the ribbon cutting ceremony during the charity dinner.

“The charity dinner was held to raise funds to build the charity home where at the moment, the home is at the stage of having its roofing installed.

“We aim to provide a day-care centre for senior citizens or the elderly of Labuan and a skilled training centre for special and underprivileged children residing in Labuan,” she said.

Jessica added that by working closely with the club’s co-organiser, the Labuan Chinese Chamber of Commerce, RM213,000 was collected from ticket sales for the charity dinner.

The guest of honour for the charity dinner was the president of Labuan Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Datuk Wong Kii Yii.

During the dinner, there were stage performances by the special children of SMK Lajau, six-year-old little magician Sylvia Voo, a three-piece band known as Perfect Combination from Kota Kinabalu and a singer from Kuching, Janice Chong.
