SARATOK: “I am ready to stand as a candidate in Saratok if that were the decision from Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders,” proclaimed SPDP president Tan Sri William Mawan yesterday.

Mawan said the party’s candidates’ list for the 13th general election had long been submitted and the final decision was in the hands of the BN’s top leadership.

“As what I’ve been stressing all this while, I’m ready to stand to defend Saratok so long as the effort will bring forth benefits to the party.

“With that being said, we shall now wait for our prime minister to announce the list of candidates within the next few days,” he told reporters after officiating at the ‘Berambeh Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) 2013 Saratok Di Hatiku’ programme here.

On another matter, Mawan, who is also Minister of Social Development, called for more social activities to be organised on a regular basis.

“Such activities can enhance unity among the various communities,” he said, adding that the people of Saratok should be proud as their constituency has been chosen as one of the main center of activities.

“If we look at the big picture, there are many benefits from organising such programmes, which will be beneficial for the community as well as visitors.

“For instance, it will provide an opportunity for small entrepreneurs to run their businesses and this will have a socio-economic impact.”

Meanwhile, Pil Ling Chiew, who represented the state RTM director, said the main aim of the programme was to disseminate information and government policies to the community at grassroots level.

“Saratok has been chosen as the venue for this programme because of the performance, response and collaboration shown by the community which was very positive during the last event.”

‘Berambeh Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) 2013 Saratok Di Hatiku’ is organised by RTM in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Development, Saratok District Office, Saratok District Council as well as several government departments and NGOs. Also present at the event were Deputy Minister of Transport and Saratok incumbent Jelaing Mersait and Betong Resident Dato Romi Sigan Dainel.
