PENDANG: PAS leaders are using Islam only to garner votes to win the upcoming general election, and has no intention at all to fight for Islam and set up an Islamic state which it has been harping about all this while, according to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

In light of this, the former prime minister is urging all PAS members to quit the party as their leaders have all along been lying to the people.

He said PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat was also willing to label Umno members and supporters as infidels even if they were PAS members’ own parents and grandparents.

“If there are people who still follow PAS because they are fanatics and loyal to Nik Aziz, they are doing something that is against Islam. PAS is only a party for its leaders to become YB (Yang Berhormat) and to have the opportunity to get allowances and cars.

“They lied to the ‘rakyat’ (people) that they would implement hudud and struggle for Islam,” he said after attending the People’s Gathering 2013 at the grounds of the Pendang Umno office, here, yesterday.

Dr Mahathir said Nik Aziz had acted cruelly by calling Umno people infidels and what the PAS leader and ulama did was forbidden in Islam.

He said PAS leaders and members who quit the party were close to the party stalwart and could thus see his meanness.

On another note, Dr Mahathir said he had no intention of contesting in the 13th general election but would only assist Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) win the elections.

He said he wanted to thank and repay Umno and BN’s good deeds and help given to him until he could become prime minister, by being involved in the election campaign.

On PAS vice-president Datuk Husam Musa’s statement asking Dr Mahathir not to make any political comment in this general election, the former premier said he was only practising freedom of expression.
