SARATOK: We Love PM Club here hopes the BN top leadership would make the best of the available time left to pick a ‘truly winnable’ candidate for Saratok.

The truly winnable candidate should be the first choice of the local people, especially the registered voters in the area, club chairman Enturan Luta said during a dinner attended by about 230 members here last Friday.

“The voice and views of the people ought to be accorded due respect as it is they who decide a winner in an election,” he noted.

In this respect, the parties entrusted to make recommendations or assessment on potential candidates had to be sincere, honest and transparent, he said, cautioning if this was ignored, the whole BN family stood to bear the consequences.

He felt the best formula for picking a winnable candidate was to assess their popularity whereby one who commanded the support of the majority ought to be given the chance.

However, the many potential candidates emerging for this election showed that BN was not short of qualified people to take over the role of developing Saratok from the senior leaders, Enturan whose name was among those bandied commented.

He is hopeful of getting the blessing from the top BN leadership.

However, he did not rule out the possibility of him contesting as a BN-friendly independent candidate if BN did not pick him.

“It all depends on the wish and support of the local voters,” he stated. As far as possible, he would try to avoid contesting as an independent, he said.

Enturan said he had worked very hard to establish his base in the political arena by organising formal and informal gatherings with the local community in the past two years.

Given the current political scenario he believed that Saratok is set to witness a more than two-cornered contest.

The other names bandied to defend Saratok seat are a Sibu-based lawyer Chambai Lindong, Dr James Chela, Barbara William Mawan and even SPDP president Tan Sri William Mawan himself.
