Crisis in Perak DAP worsens

IPOH: DAP’s internal crisis in Perak continued to worsen as former Teja state assemblyman and long-time DAP member R K Muthu announced that he will contest the Kepayang state seat which is under the Ipoh Barat parliamentary constituency in the 13th General Election.

Muthu said he had decided to become an independent candidate at the expense of being expelled by his party which he had served as a member for the last 40 years.

“I will stand as a candidate in my capacity as a DAP member until I am sacked by the party. But, I will not resign before that.

“I am offering myself because the people in Kepayang know that I have been working hard for the last three years.

“Those who know that I have served them well want me to stand because they feel it will be better for me to contest rather than someone who has not done much,” he told reporters.

He said his decision was prompted by recent events, especially his spat with the DAP’s national vice-chairman M Kulasegaran.

Labelling Kulasegaran as a trouble-maker in the party, he alleged that he had been taunted, ridiculed and condemned by the former Ipoh Barat MP and his supporters for months now.

He also claimed that the Perak DAP leadership did not make any attempt to defuse the spat despite knowing the fall-out between him and Kulasegaran.

Muthu recently was “sacked” by Kulasegaran as his service centre coordinator on the ground that the former was a bankrupt while the verbal dismissal prompted Muthu to open his new service centre next to Kulasegaran’s last week. — Bernama
