KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Musa Aman yesterday advised party members in Sepanggar not to dwell too much on who will contest for the Barisan Nasional (BN) in the parliamentary constituency.

“My advice is don’t talk about candidacy now and I urge all, especially Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties, to be united and work hard together to ensure that the coalition is victorious in the 13th general election,” he said.

Musa, who was met after officiating the ‘Wanita Penggerak Transformasi Negara’ seminar here yesterday, said this when asked to comment on the objection from Umno Sepanggar grassroots against an ‘outsider’ being nominated as the BN candidate in the constituency.

Musa, who is also Sabah BN chief, stressed that it is important for BN members to support whoever Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announces as candidate(s) in the coming election.

“Most important is to ensure that BN wins. We will support the candidate so don’t worry about who it will be. I would also like to stress here that I know Umno Sepanggar and BN component parties have been working hard to ensure BN will be victorious and I appreciate what they have been doing,” he said.

There have been talks that former Kota Belud member of parliament Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan would be BN candidate for Sepanggar.

This has sparked off protests from Umno grassroots members and community leaders in Sepanggar. Some of the community leaders have threatened to resign from the posts and also not to work with the candidate as they are in favour of Umno Sepanggar chief Datuk Jumat Idris.

Jumat, being a local there, is the best choice as he is more aware of the problems and issues affecting the people, they claimed.
