KUCHING: World Earth Day was celebrated by the exchange of old newspapers for other items by Crown Square Shopping Centre, The Art Corner and See Hua Marketing Sdn Bhd.

Crown Square management representative Tay Kien Hong said the public exchanged their old newspapers for either a 370g of Royal-B honey or two packs of Mee Daddy (10X80g) for every 20kg.

The exchange was held at the entrance of Crown Square from 10am to 1pm yesterday.

“Due to great response, we limited the exchange to 40kg of old newspaper per person,” Tay said when met at the event.

A long queue of people was seen at the entrance to the centre besides a long queue of vehicles waiting to unload piles of newspapers at the entrance yesterday morning.

Some family members were seen pushing trolleys loaded with newspapers. Last year, the exchange collected 1,700kg of old newspapers which was then sold. Proceeds from the sale was donated to charity.

Yesterday’s event collected a total of 5,040kg of newspapers.
