BUKIT MERTAJAM: Permatang Pauh Umno has for long been yearning for Barisan Nasional (BN) to recapture the parliamentary seat, that it would fully accept and support whoever chosen by the BN leadership to contest the seat in the upcoming 13th general election.

Its chief Datuk Abdul Jalil Abdul Majid said the division would not bother itself over the choice but would go all out to ensure
victory for the BN candidate chosen.

“Realising that Permatang Pauh has been a Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) stronghold for four terms now, it won’t be easy to wrest the seat. But our party machinery has been working very hard, especially at the grassroots level in the last five years to be close to the local community.”

Abdul Jalil said this after opening the Permatang Pauh “Asam Pedas Jalinan Rakyat” programme ighamme organised by Permatang Pauh Wanuta Umno, here, yesterday.

“We have been organising various programmes since the day we lost in the last general election. These programmes have been geared more towards winning the trust of the 20,000 fence-sitters by involving them.

“We have received positive feedback from most of them, so we believe we won’t be facing such a big problem even if the candidate chosen is a new face,” he said. — Bernama
