KUCHING: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) announced that the party has picked Willie Mongin as its candidate for Mambong in the May 5 polls.

In making the announcement during PKR’s ceramah at the community hall in Kampung Benuk on Saturday, state PKR vice chairman See Chee How said although the DAP had also shown interest in the seat, the party’s candidate had not been exposed and was not well known to the public, unlike Willie who has been moving around aggressively on the ground to meet the people.

The Batu Lintang assemblyman described Willie as a capable person.

According to See, state PKR chief cum Ba Kelalan assemblyman Baru Bian, who was supposed to make the announcement, had to go to Limbang to attend to urgent matters.

“As far as our party is concerned, we have chosen Willie as our candidate to contest in Mambong in the May 5 polls because we feel he is a capable candidate,” See said.

Among others present were Wanita PKR vice president Voon Shiak Ni and See’s personal assistant Desmond Kho.

Willie, who was also present, said he accepted the challenge and promised to work hard to protect the rights of the people if elected.

“Tonight (Apr 13), the announcement (of my candidacy) is very significant because it is here (Kampung Benuk) where I was born,” Willie said.

He expressed confidence that he would get good support from villagers as Barisan Nasional (BN) had never won in the village.

Among the issues Wille highlighted during the political talk were NCR land and water supply to the village which was promised during the 2011 state election.
