MIRI: Youths here are encouraged to join registered youth clubs or organisations to enable them to mingle and learn from one another to develop themselves further.

Assistant Minister of Sports Datuk Lee Kim Shin said the ministry encouraged youths to lead an active lifestyle by joining any registered organisations of their choice s as this would help to mould them into useful citizens.

“There are many negative elements out there and if one is not careful one could be ‘sucked’ into joining them. But by being part of a registered youth organisation, youths could learn to digest facts before acting on them,” he told reporters after receiving a courtesy call from members of Junior Chamber International (JCI) at his office here yesterday.

“Learning is a continuous process and youth can learn a lot through organisations. This includes learning to make the right decision. They will learn to listen and not jump to conclusion. People make mistake because they make decision based on emotion.”

Meanwhile, the JCI called on the assistant minister to seek his support for a convention that JCI Malaysia Junior and Youth Area Sarawak Academy will hold from May 24-27. The convention will be held at Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club and the host will be JCI Junior of SMK Chung Hua Miri.

Also present at the courtesy call yesterday were JCI National president Kim Tan and JCI Miri president Liaw Siew Yun.

Lee who is also JCI Miri Senator said he was always supportive of JCI’s activities especially those designed to empower youths.
