JITRA: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the Barisan Nasional (BN) has a good chance of recapturing Kedah from the opposition in the 13th General Election (GE13).

He said the BN had regained its support in the state and hoped it would be translated into votes come polling day on May 5.

“I can see the spirit of old has returned, huge numbers of (BN) supporters turned up during the nomination process today and this means they will come out in full force on polling day … for Kedah, I see the signs are good,” he told reporters after accompanying his son Datuk Mukhriz to the nomination centre for the Jerlun parliamentary constituency at Sekolah Menengah Sains Kubang Pasu here.

Mukhriz, who is also Deputy Trade and Industry Minister and Kedah Umno deputy chief, is contesting the Ayer Hitam state seat in the constituency for the BN in GE13.

He is also the former MP for Jerlun. Kedah was among five states that the BN lost to the opposition in the 2008 general election. — Bernama
