SEMPORNA: Malaysia United People’s Party (MUPP) candidate for Semporna parliamentary seat, Abdul Halim Bandan, had to withdraw from contesting after the returning officer told him that cheque was not accepted as a mode of payment for his candidacy.
Abdul Halim was the last to arrive at the nomination centre at the Semporna Community Hall yesterday.
He walked out disappointedly when the returning officer could not accept his cheque to pay for his nomination.
As he left he told reporters that he was late and nomination was closed.
However, a check with the returning officer revealed that he made it in time but was not accepted by default because of his mode of payment.
