People more inclined towards BN – PBS

KOTA KINABALU: The people will be more inclined towards Barisan Nasional (BN) with the many transformation programmes implemented by the government, said Chin Tek Ming, the PBS candidate for P. 172 parliamentary seat.

The 13th general election will be a tough battle for Chin, as he is facing two strong opposition parties, especially Democratic Action Party’s (DAP) Jimmy Wong Sze Phin, who chose not to defend his N. 57 Sri Tanjung state seat but to stand in P.172 Kota Kinabalu.

State Reform Party Sabah Chapter (STAR) candidate Michael Liew Hock Leong is the other candidate vying for the parliamentary seat.

Chin informed that 80 per cent of the voters in P.172 Kota Kinabalu are Chinese.

“I believe in the Prime Minister’s leadership, and his many transformation programmes and 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M), which are benefitting the people.

“The sentiments of the people, especially the Chinese in Kota Kinabalu, can be said to be more inclined to BN,” he said upon leaving the nomination centre at Dewan Maksak in Likas here yesterday.

Chin, 43, is a practising lawyer, married with no children.

In addition, Chin said BN had a common objective and common Prime Minister, whilst the opposition parties have yet to decide who would be the Prime Minister.

Unlike the opposition, he pointed out that BN has a common logo as well.

“I hope the people in Kota Kinabalu will vote for me, and give me an opportunity to serve (the people).”

This is Chin’s second attempt in contesting for the Kota Kinabalu parliamentary seat.

DAP’s Hiew King Cheu won the Kota Kinabalu parliamentary seat with 9,464 votes in the election in 2008, defeating PKR Christina Liew (9,358 votes), Chin (8,420 votes) and independent candidate Kong Yu Kiong (341 votes).

Although Chin did not succeed in the previous election, he has not given up and continued to serve the people in Kota Kinabalu for the past five years.

“I hope the people will give me the chance to bring their voices in parliament.”

On his opponent Wong, Chin said the party would only talk and shout but did not do anything.

“If you don’t believe me, ask the people in Tawau who voted for him, what he has done.”

He said the people’s interest was his top priority, in line with the 1Malaysia concept ‘People First, Performance Now’.

“I believe the people are smart and know who can serve and speak for them.”

Chin’s nomination was proposed by John Lim Yu Sin and seconded by Lim Vun Chan.
