KOTA KINABALU: MCA’s Datuk Agnes Shim Tshin Nyuk believes that being a state assemblywoman will provide a wider and more effective platform for her to serve the community.

The first-time candidate said she had a record of the services rendered but she hoped for a different, more effective and stronger platform to serve the people.

Shim pointed out that she has been been serving the Chinese community in the past, but she will have a wider scope of service as an assemblywoman.

Shim, who is the MCA Sabah Wanita chief, is vying for the N. 16 Luyang state seat.

She will face Sabah Progressive Party’s (SAPP) Melanie Chia, Democratic Action Party’s (DAP) Dr Hiew King Cheu and State Reform Party Sabah Chapter’s (STAR) Jeffrey Jomion @ Jed Fei Lee.

Shim also thanked Barisan Nasional (BN) and MCA leadership for giving women the opportunity to contest.

“BN is a good platform, very united. We have many component parties, but we don’t argue,” she said in an interview after the nomination at Dewan Maksak here yesterday.

Shim was proposed by Lim Hen Jin @ Margaret Lim and seconded by Chong Chee Min.

Shim arrived at the nomination centre with other BN candidates, including Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai, Chin Shu Ying and Chin Tek Ming at 8.45am.
