Brunei Press, TelBru select winners of ‘Brunei Through My Lens’ contest

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Brunei Press Sdn Bhd and Telekom Brunei Berhad (TelBru) officially judged the entries of the “Brunei Through My Lens” Photographic Competition along with various sponsors at the Brunei Press Commercial Printing Services building on Saturday, Borneo Bulletin reported.

The competition, which has garnered around 1,300 entries, is aimed at boosting and supporting Brunei’s new and seasoned talents in the field of photography whilst showcasing the selected and winning photographs by featuring them in a premium coffee-table book on the Sultanate.

The organisers of the competition, TelBru and Brunei Press, are working together to publish the book, which is expected to hit the shelves in July this year Deputy General Manager of Brunei Press Hazizah Osman and Ms Nora Rahman, TelBru’s Corporate Communications Manager took part in judging the entries.

Also joining the judging process were representatives from the Brunei Tourism Board, supporter of the event and various sponsors namely Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), Royal Brunei Airlines, Orchid Garden Hotel, Canon Interhouse Company Sdn Bhd and Columbia Adventure Watches.

The competition, open to all residing in Brunei Darussalam, is divided into five categories. The “Historical Journey” category encouraged participants to walk down memory lane and present a photograph that captures Brunei’s history in some way.

The “Places” category focused on forgotten locations, picturesque landmarks and uncharted territories to help entice people to discover more about the country.

The third category, “People”, asked participants to focus on the country’s citizens, and showcase “friendly smiles and tell untold stories”.

The fourth category is about displaying Brunei as it is now and the milestones it has been able to achieve.

The fifth and final category, named “Brunei 2035”, had participants illustrate their vision of Brunei Darussalam in the future through the use of powerful imagery.

Sharing her thoughts on the entries, Hazizah Osman said, “The submissions are of good quality and shows that a lot of thought and creativity went into the taking of these photographs.”

Those who participated in the competition should look out for the announcement of the winners in the Borneo Bulletin on Tuesday, April 23.
