KOTA KINABALU: Barisan Nasional (BN) will achieve victory if the component parties remain united, says Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) president Datuk Liew Vui Keong.

“Not only in Likas, but in all the parliamentary and state seats that BN is contesting,” he said during a luncheon for BN component parties’ youths and BN’s N14 Likas candidate Chin Shu Ying here yesterday.

Also present were LDP deputy president Datuk Chin Su Phin, vice presidents Datuk Lim Ming Hoo and Datuk Pang Yuk Ming, secretary-general Datuk Teo Chee Kang, and members from PBS, Umno, MCA and other component parties.

Liew urged BN component party members to be united to ensure victory for all BN candidates.

“LDP is elated that we are appointed to contest in the Likas state constituency,” he said.

He pointed out that Chin would face political veteran, SAPP president Datuk Seri Panglima Yong Teck Lee in Likas.

If Chin successfully defeat Yong, he will be a hero, he said.

Nonetheless, Liew said Chin still needed the support from BN component parties’ members.

In the state BN manifesto launched by Sabah BN chairman Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman yesterday (April 22), Liew said the Sabah illegal immigrant issue was placed as the top priority, which reflected the sincerity of the BN government towards the problem.

He said the government would implement the recommendations by the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to effectively tackle the issue of illegal immigrants in Sabah.

Meanwhile, Sabah BN has listed native land issues as the second priority to resolve the issues related to this problem. Liew said he would also request the government to resume the issuance of native certificates that had been frozen since the 1980s.

Liew said the BN had included the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) into the manifesto, while the opposition parties were not concerned about the safety of the State and Sabahans and had even claimed that the intrusion was orchestrated by BN.

“We have lost 10 security personnel, who have parents and children, how can this be a joke?” Liew asked.
