KUCHING: As the campaigning for the 13th general election (GE13) entered its fourth day yesterday the momentum is slowly picking up.

State Information Department Head of Media Samuel Simon said the department was beginning to receive more daily event itineraries for respective constituencies throughout the state.

“The momentum is picking up now and we believe by next week it will be even more intense as the d-day is getting nearer,” he said.

He revealed that so far this week, except for the visit by Defence Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zahid Hamidi on Monday, there was no sign of other federal Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders coming to the state.

“We have not been notified of any visit by federal leaders so far but for next week we are still not sure yet,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.

Samuel added that there might not be many visits by federal ministers since all of them would be focusing on their own areas.

“During this time most of the campaign activities were carried out at the local level, involving the respective candidates and local party leaders,” he said.

Overall the campaigning had been smooth and up to yesterday the State Election Commission (SPR) office had not received any report of anyone breaching of election law.

State SPR deputy director Suriani Saruji said the election campaign was so far very peaceful and orderly with parties from both sides observing the rules.

“Hopefully the present situation will stay until the final day,” she said.

On the other hand, since nomination day until yesterday the police had received a number of reports involving election related offences.

A majority of them however involved minor offences such as vandalising of party posters and banners.
