ARMED WITH KNOWLEDGE: Graduates hold up their scrolls after the KLMUC and CiCT Convocation Ceremony.

KUALA LUMPUR: Over 1,000 Kuala Lumpur Metropolitan University College (KLMUC) and Cosmopoint College of Technology (CiCT) students received their graduation certificates at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre recently.

The convocation was attended by educationists, dignitaries, graduating students and their proud parents.

KLMUC vice-chancellor Professor Dr Abdul Rahim Abdul Rahman conferred the diplomas, while Cosmopoint Sdn Bhd CEO Hizwani Hassan presented the bachelor’s degrees.

Cosmopoint was established in the early 1990s to provide affordable quality and accessible higher education through the institution’s 11 neighbourhood centres nationwide.

The institution provides practical learning experiences that reflect the ‘real world’ working environment, with modernised facilities and on-the-job training programme to produce marketable graduates.

The Cosmopoint Group of Companies was acquired last year by Ekuiti Nasional Berhad (Ekuinas), a government-linked private equity fund management company.

Under the new management, the institution aims to increase its competitiveness via aggressive expansion plans such as programme diversification, new foundation courses and infrastructure upgrade to meet current market demands.

The institution will emphasise a ‘student-focused’ approach to further improve its services.

With the launch of i-dapat (Dana Pendidikan Tinggi Ijazah) this month, students can qualify for financial education funds worth RM1,500 to pursue any degree course at KLMUC.

The i-dAPAT is available to students from May 1 until Sept 30.

Students who enrol for their degree courses during this period can use the funds for hostel registration, registration fees, hostel monthly rents, referral exams or repeat subject fees.

Other key initiatives include campus expansion plans at Menara Tun Ismail Mohamed Ali with modernised facilities to cater for the increased number of students.

Currently, the institution offers a wide range of programmes under seven industry specific faculties such as Languages and Communication, Health Sciences, Built Environment, Hospitality and Tourism, Business and Management, IT and Engineering as well as Art and Design.
