KUCHING: It is highly irresponsible for the Opposition to make claims that they could build the Pan Borneo Highway in five years, said SUPP president Dato Sri Peter Chin.

He was commenting on a news article on Wednesday in which DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said a toll-free Pan Borneo Highway would be built within the next five years if Pakatan Rakyat comes into power in the 13th general election.

Chin said Lim’s claim on the 2,500-km long highway was merely to fish for votes.

“If Lim Guan Eng can accomplish that, he must be a superman,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

“It is estimated to cost around RM10 billion. How is Lim Guan Eng going to come up with that kind of money in five years?

“Is he the prime minister to make such a pledge? It is an irresponsible claim by any leader. Don’t hoodwink voters.”

On SUPP’s ‘Clean and Just’ slogan for the May 5 polls, Chin said it reflected the party’s stance against corruption and the struggles of the current leadership.

“We are against corruption and we are ready to promote anti-corruption campaigns. This is one of the agendas which we will pursue. It is all part of BN’s effort and we hope voters will judge us by records of what our leaders have done for the people.

“What have the Opposition done to fight corruption besides harping on the issue?”

Chin said it was important to go back to basics, of the days when SUPP was first registered.

“For the past 54 years, our objective has never changed. We want to establish a fair and just society for all people.

“Basically it is about governance, not just about the government but also political parties and the conduct of candidates. The ‘faces of SUPP’ are free from corruption and wrongdoings.” #myvote13 #ge13
